Les Gamins
A disillusioned man gets his taste for life back when he meets his future son-in-law.
fiancée Lola. While Lola's mother Suzanne receives him with clumsy but sweet enthusiasm, she remains preoccupied and above all overwhelmed by her projects to save Africa from famine. Lola's father, Gilbert, meanwhile, seems completely lost and disappointed by everything, starting with his own life - which he considers wasted after so many years with Suzanne. But then Gilbert meets his future son-in-law: Thomas is going through a kind of late adolescent crisis and is eager to recruit Gilbert, whom he now considers his equal. Thomas actually represents what Gilbert has always dreamed of: a young man full of dreams who can celebrate his freedom anyway he wants...
Comedy built around the duo Chabat-Boublil, whose adolescent and sometimes crude shtick is often spot on. But while the male characters are fully fleshed out, the women and those who play them are reduced to cut-outs. Les gamins (literally “the kids”) of the title, therefore, have more than enough room to play out their silliness and to turn Gilbet's dip in the fountain of youth into a good collection of laughs.
