Tu honoreras ta mère et ta mère
The reunion of a mother with her 4 sons and daughters-in-law turns into a Greek tragedy.
Every year, Jo (Nicole Garcia) manages to reunite her four sons in Greece, under the pretext of helping her at the small theater festival she founded. But the financial crisis makes her plans more difficult and Jo doesn't tell her children when the festival gets cancelled. Her much-loved sons arrive on the island with their exes, children and new spouses, who soon argue with their mother-in-law, who's never really cut the umbilical chord. Under the sharp eye of this grandmother, a real augur of bad omens, their visit promises to end badly...
Greek tragedy has never done its name as much justice: a dysfunctional Mediterranean family reunion that sinks as low as repeating tacky word games to make sure everyone in the audience gets them. Innumerable references to the Oedipus Complex are as indigestible as a stale, oily and hastily eaten moussaka. During an economic crisis that has brought Greece to its knees, this two-drachma comedy threatens to finish the poor country off and makes you wonder why the gods continue to torment everyone in it.
