Magic Mike
A stripper introduces a young man into his capricious world. Starring Channing Tatum in a film inspired by his life.
A roofer, "esthetic automobile" salesman and stripper, Mike (Channing Tatum) calls himself an entrepreneur. He dreams of becoming a furniture designer and puts money aside to achieve his dream. He befriends young Adam (Alex Pettyfer), who's down on his luck and living with his sister Brooke (Cody Horn). Mike nicknames Adam “the kid” and introduces him to a life at Club Xquisite, which specializes in male strip shows for women. Adam quickly becomes a crowd favorite and lets himself be carried away by fame and the excess that comes with it. Having promised Brooke he'd look after Adam, Mike feels guilty, especially as he begins to fall for her...
"Make every women believe you're inside each one of them!" Dallas (Matthew McConaughey) tells Adam as a kind of accelerated training. This representation of female expectations of men - screaming hysterically as a hot stud grinds his way through a routine - would naturally make most women laugh, especially on this side of the Atlantic. Nevertheless, Channing Tatum's performance as a go-go dancer is excellent, which shouldn't be surprising: Magic Mike was inspired by a chapter in his own life, as he stripped for money at age 19 to make ends meets.
