Movie Rating: Agathe Tissier

Two heart surgeons share an unlimited passion. Starring Juliette Binoche and Edgar Ramirez.

Mila (Juliette Binoche) and Javier (Edgar Ramirez) operate on hearts by day and follow the beat of their own in their free time. They begin a passionate relationship that seems to have lasted years already on the first day, with the insouciance and lightness of young lovers. But Javier's drinking starts to change things, and when Mila finds out she’s pregnant, she is barred from the operating room and asked to teach instead. Their relationship suffers, turning from limitless passion to unchecked anger.

Marion Laine deals with excess in general, be it passion, alcohol or a desire for freedom – unfortunately, it does so with the subtlety of an elephant and a plethora of worn stereotypes and ridiculous clichés: riding drunk on a motorcycle while laughing hysterically; eating salmon roe out of the jar with their hands; jumping naked into a lake. As for the couple's decline, there too the stereotypes are legion. At least there's a common theme throughout the movie.
